Good Vibes: Express Yourself! Musical Tools for Emotional Communication
May 14, 2019 @ 12:10 pm - 12:50 pm

Our body is a series of systems that work together to make us move, think, and feel, connecting us to our thoughts, feelings and emotions. Join us to discover tools that can help you calm down in a tight spot as well as develop a 5 minute a day mindfulness moment. Through her work as a dance movement therapist and Director of Early Childhood Programs at the Music School, she has developed a number of techniques to help calm the body and clear the mind. We’ll experience a ladder breath, some visual meditation, and a fun hot chocolate moment. Many of these techniques can be used in a car, office, or small space by people of all ages. Heather teaches 2 year olds some of these techniques! Come smile, relax, learn and enjoy.
Heather Oberheim, R-DMT, holds a B.A. in Psychology with dance concentration from Colby-Sawyer College and a graduate degree in Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) from Antioch New England. As Music & Movement director, her classes on-site, in public schools, and community agencies such as Head Start benefit low-income children and children with special needs. Heather has advanced training in neurologic dance movement therapy with expertise in helping older adults cope with the effects of Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and dementia. Additional training in meditation, the Kestenberg Movement Profile, breathing, and the physical practice of yoga also informs her work. Heather has studied childhood development for many years which has aided her work with children affected by the opioid crisis, poverty, and homelessness. Heather is a frequent presenter of professional development workshops for early childhood educators, with a specialty in helping children with disabilities. She is active in the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association, the American Dance Therapy Association, and the NH Early Learning Association.
